Emanuel Grimes attended the University of Missouri–St Louis where he majored in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. Upon graduation he felt the need to speak to troubled youth directly and began working at the Oklahoma Juvenile Detention Center. He is no stranger to these institutions having frequented them growing up to visit his own brother. What he noticed there is that the young men craved male attention and that they were really excited to have black male staff. He began to realize the only time some of these guys got to interact with positive male role models is when incarcerated. He was destined to try to change the trajectory of other young men’s lives before they ended up in juvenile. By producing The Black Youth Manual, he is giving them valuable information and protocol to abide by. Mr. Grimes has two sisters and two brothers, and six nieces and nephews. When he is not around family he spends his time traveling, working out, and volunteering.
